After the battery catastrophe of the Note 7 that lead to complete recall and cancellation of the device, Samsung has now introduced the successor to it, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Despite a bad name brought to the lineup by the Note 7 that ended up in months of warnings aboard planes and other public transports about the dangers of using the device, Samsung did not change the name of the lineup. It is without a doubt; the nicest looking Galaxy Note that the company has launched. The device is set to hit shelves on September 15th.
The overlook look of the Galaxy Note8 takes design cues from the Galaxy S8+ but has a larger 6.3-inches display, more squarish corners, and less curvy sides. It is heavier than the Galaxy S8+ (195g vs. 173g) and comes in four different color options (black, gray, gold, and blue). The Galaxy Note 8 specs include a stylus which is almost identical to the last year model.
The internal hardware specifications of Note 8 includes Snapdragon 835 processor, 64GB of storage (with microSD support), and 6GB of RAM. It features a 3300mAh battery which shows that Samsung is playing a bit safe at least with Note 7’s successor. The slightly bigger display and a 6GB RAM module are the two hardware differences between the Note 8 and Galaxy S8+. Samsung has also equipped the Galaxy Note 8 with dual 12 MP camera sensors with dual OIS. The camera software also comes packed with features.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 ships with Android Noughat 7.1.1. The Note 8 price in Pakistan is around Rs.98,000 at launch for the base model. For detailed hardware specs of Galaxy Note 8, features, photos & videos gallery, and price of Note8, please check out the tabs below.

Galaxy Note 8 Features
Here are some of the main features of Galaxy Note 8 that Samsung wanted us to know at the unveiling of the device. Without any further ado, lets talk of the mains Galaxy Note 8 features.
Galaxy Note 8 Display
- Almost bezel-free 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display
- Resolution: QHD+ (2960 x 1440) with 521ppi pixel density
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 continues being the phablet with a larger display. It features a massive 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display with minimal bezels, and Samsung calls it the Infinity Display. The Infinity display means the front of the Note 8 is almost all-screen making the device a marvel to look at. The Galaxy Note 8 display has a resolution of 2960 x 1440 (QHD+) with a pixel density of 521ppi. The display of the device has an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. While the screen of the Note 8 is slightly larger than the Galaxy S8+ (6.2-inch), both devices have the same resolution. Samsung also features its Always On display feature in Galaxy Note 8 that allows the device owners to take handwritten notes on the screen without turning it on with the S Pen and that includes multiple pages of information.
Galaxy Note 8 Design
- Metal chassis sandwiched between curved glass on front and back, squarish corners
- The fingerprint sensor on the rear, Bixby button on the left.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is almost identical to the Galaxy S8+ with a few differences. These differences include a touch bigger size due to the housing for the S Pen. The Note8 measure at 162.5 x 74.8 x 8.6 mm in dimensions and 195g in weight, making it the heaviest and tallest Note Samsung has launched to date. The Note 8 continues to keep the fingerprint scanner at an annoying location on the rear of the device as found on the S8 lineup. But on Note 8, it’s easier to locate the sensor. Another noticeable difference in the design is the black camera strip on the back of the device that houses dual camera setup, heart rate sensor, flash, and digit reader. It has no camera bump on the rear. The Galaxy Note 8 is IP68 certified, which means it is both water and dust proof and can be descended in water up to 30 minutes without any damage.
Galaxy Note 8 Camera
- First Samsung smartphone to get a dual camera setup
- wide-angle (12MP) and Telephoto (12MP) sensors with 2x optical zoom and OIS
- 8MP selfie camera
Samsung has finally ventured in dual cameras on the rear with its Note 8. One of these two camera sensors includes a 12MP telephoto lens while the other one is a 12MP wide-angle lens. Both of these cameras are capable of working together and independently as well. The camera is capable of up to 2x optical zoom and can capture photos with bokeh effect (background blur) similar to the one found on the iPhone 7 Plus and other high-end smartphones. The camera also supports optical image stabilization. The device has an 8MP shooter on the front side with f/1.7 aperture.
Galaxy Note 8 Hardware and Software
- Chipset: Snapdragon 835 (US and China) or Exynos 8895 (Global)
- 6GB of RAM, 64GB (US)/128GB/256GB of storage options
- Android Noughat 7.1.1 with an overlay of Samsung Experience
Just like some of the previous Samsung smartphone, the Note 8 is available in two chipset flavors: The Snapdragon 835 by Qualcomm in the US and China and Samsung’s own Exynos 8895 in other regions of the world. The device comes packed with a whopping 6GB of RAM module. The smartphone is available in three storage options: 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. However, it remains unclear whether all the storage options will arrive in all regions or not. Samsung didn’t forget to include a microSD card slot on the top of the device that allows you to expand the storage with an external microSD card. Let’s turn to software now. Earlier this year, Samsung renamed its Android skin from TouchWiz to Samsung Experience. This new named skin is what’s available on the Note 8 atop Android Noughat 7.1.1. Yes, it does not come with Android Oreo at launch. However, Samsung will make sure to push the latest Android OS as it feels comfortable about the overall experience and stability. The Note 8 also has an S Pen that adds unique functionalities to the device. Other than that, the handset features Bluetooth 5.0, 4G LTE (Cat 16), NFC, wireless charging, and USB Type-C connectivity.
Galaxy Note 8 Battery
- It packs a 3,300mAh battery
- Fast wired and wireless charging
Despite being Samsung’s biggest phone with the largest screen, the Galaxy Note 8 does not pack the biggest battery inside. The Note 8 is powered by a 3,300mAh battery which is smaller than the Galaxy S8 Plus (3,500 mAh.) The two main reasons behind a smaller battery size are: space require to house S Pen inside the Note8’s body and the whole Galaxy Note 7’s exploding scandal which was caused by a dodgy battery inside it. Samsung simply would not want to repeat the Note 7 story all over again by featuring a large battery size. The company is playing safe this time around. The good thing about the Note 8’s battery is that it supports both the fast wired charging as well as the wireless charging. You’ll have to purchase a separate charging pad accessory for the wireless charging feature.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 S Pen
- House inside bottom right corner of Note 8’s body
- Improved pressure sensitivity and a finger tip
Just like any other Note handset, Samsung has included an S Pen with the Galaxy Note 8. While the Samsung claims it as an improved stylus, but it is the same the company launched alongside Note 7 which the company recalled from the retail shelves. The S Pen stylus slides inside the Galaxy Note 8’s body from the bottom right corner of the device. A straightforward and pleasing press-and-pop system is used to eject the pen from the metal and glass body. This latest S Pen stylus has improved pressure sensitivity and to make it more responsive and increase its accuracy; the company has added a new, finer tip to the stylus. With Note 8 S Pen, you can draw graphics and send them as GIF animations. The handwriting feature and translation function have also seen improvements. Now hovering the Pen over a word or entire sentence or price allows you for a quick currency conversion or translation. There’s a down side of an S Pen for the Note 8. Its inclusion has resulted in smaller 3,300mAh battery size because the stylus takes up a chunk of space inside the body of Note 8 as compared to the Galaxy S8 Plus.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Colors
- Four color options: Maple Gold, Orchard Grey, Deep Sea Blue, Midnight Black
- Not all colors will be available in all regions at launch
Samsung has introduced four color options for its Galaxy Note 8 handset, but the availability of these color options depends on where you live in the world. Initially, the US folks won’t be getting the Blue Note 8, while those residing in the US or Austrailia will not get the Blue and the Grey color options for now. It does not mean that these region won;t even get these color options. Samsung favors to make all color options available around the globe later down the line and may potentially launch more color options as well. So, don’t be surprised if you see a new color or a missing one available in the retail store near you.
