Apple iPhone X Features
Apple has finally launched an iPhone with a new design since the launch of iPhone 6. Here are some of the prominent new iPhone X features and Apple emphasized at the launch event. Without any further ado, let’s jump right to the list of new features of Apple iPhone X
iPhone X with all-new design
Apple has been launching new iPhone models with the same design as that of the iPhone 6 up until now. The iPhone X has broken the tradition as it comes with an all-new design. The front of iPhone X is nothing but a display covering the whole front. There is a cut at the top of the display that houses all the sensors and the front-camera setup. There is no Home button on the iPhone X which also means no Touch ID and no chin area as well. The edges of the display are rounded, instead of being squarish. The back is made of glass to support wireless charging. The bezel is made of stainless steel sandwiched between the front and back glass of the iPhone X.
Apple has finally switched to OLED display in its iPhone lineup. Apple iPhone X is the first iPhone model to get an OLED display. Apple calls it Super Retina display. It is a 5.8-inch OLED display unit with 2436 × 1125 pixels resolution and a density of 458ppi. The display supports True Tone tech that enabled the handset to adjust colors based on the lighting conditions of the surrounding. Apple has also added support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision. It means it is going to be a great experience watching videos and movies mastered in HDR.
A11 Bionic Chipset
Apple iPhone X comes with Apple’s latest and greatest chipset of 2017 called A11 Bionic. The A11 Bionic chipset is made of 6-cores. Two of these cores are high-performance cores, while the other four are efficiency cores. The efficiency cores are 70% more efficient than previous generation chipset and the high-performance cores are 25% faster than the predecessor. This new chipset comes with Apple’s own graphics processor. Apple’s new GPU inside A11 comprises of three cores. These cores are 30% faster than the ones inside A10 Fusion chipset.
Face ID on iPhone X
With the removal of Phone X, Apple has come up with an alternate authentication technology called Face ID. The Face ID is basically facial scanning that is used to unlock the device or authorize an Apple Pay payment. All you need to do is to look into your iPhone X attentively. An all-new Neural Engine inside A11 Bionic chipset powers this new Face ID system.
On the front side, there is cut at the top of the display, Apple calls it True Depth area. It contains the front camera, dot projector, IR camera and other sensors. iPhone X makes use of these sensors and cameras to authenticate user’s face. The Face ID intelligently learns about the changes in your look which mean changing hairstyle, growing beard, or putting on glasses won’t fool the Face ID. Apple claims that the Face ID is so secure that you cannot fool it with photos or event 3D masks. The facial authentication only works when you’re looking at the device attentively. The Face ID even works in darkness, thanks to the IR camera.
Portrait Lighting Feature
Apple did not stop with its stunning Portrait mode and introduced a new Portrait Lighting mode on the front and back camera of iPhone X. With this new Portrait Lighting mode, you can add lighting effects to your photos under Portrait mode. With the help of A11 Bionic chipset, the iPhone X is capable of scanning the background in real time. It then isolates the background from the subject. Then you can apply different lighting effects to your photo. You can also turn the complete background into the dark.
iPhone X Features Portrait Selfie
The same Portrait mode that you have enjoyed with the rear camera on iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, has come to the front-facing camera of iPhone X. It means, on iPhone X, you can take photos in Portrait mode with both the front and rear cameras. Things do not stop there, Apple has also added Portrait Lighting to the front-camera as well.
In iPhone X, Apple has introduced animated emojis called Animoji. With the help of the TrueDepth camera, Animojis mirror your expressions and movements. You have access to these Animojis inside the Messages app. When trying Animoji, hold the iPhone X up to your face, make some expressions, and those expressions will be transcribed into an animated emoji. Some of the builtin Animoji characters include poop, panda, unicorn, and robot.
Alongside iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, Apple has also introduced glass back in iPhone X. The reason of a glass back, other than introducing a new design, is to support wireless charging technology. The iPhone X supports Qi wireless charging standard which means any third-party wireless charger that uses this standard should be able to charge your iPhone X without any cable connection.
